New Zoo in Big Bear

A NEW ZOO FOR BIG BEAR NEARS REALITY!

A story of survival and harmony between people and nature, Moonridge Animal Park arose from the ashes of 1959 forest fires that devastated the natural ecosystem of the San Bernardino Mountains. Several injured animals were brought to safety for rehabilitation. But for some, returning to the forest was not an option due to human imprinting or injuries that would compromise their survival. For those healthy but non-releasable birds and animals, a 2.5-acre parcel located at the top of Moonridge Rd. became their protective new home – The Moonridge Animal Park.

Since the Moonridge Animal Park lease expires in 2009 the park will be moving to a soon-to-be developed location. A remarkable opportunity exists for constructing the New Big Bear Zoo with the best that technology can offer, that is, a first class educational, zoological and botanical site supported with renewable energy sources within a living alpine eco-system.

The relocation of the Moonridge Animal Park to the North Shore of Big Bear Lake on a site adjacent to the Big Bear Discovery Center by 2008 if all conditions of the Forest Service permitting process can be completed in the next year. Check out the changes coming our way at www.Bigbearzoo.com
